I am keeping a journal for my grandson. I told him he might want to read it when he gets older and can no longer remember what he did and said when he was five. “I’ll remember,” he said. I still think he might appreciate it.

May I suggest video, too? I have video of my son, then little, telling me WONDERFUL things, stories, explanations, his view of the world. It's magic to watch now for me (humiliating for him, but of course that's a feature, not a bug, for me!). Seriously, please video you talking with your grandchildren. Fifty years from now, they will TREASURE it, as will your great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Give them as many recorded memories of you and Grandma as you can, I beseech you.
