P.S. A Column On Things

By PAUL E. SCHINDLER JR. I am from Portland, Oregon, Beaumont ’66, Benson High ’70, MIT ’74. Some things are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know these things.

Purity Test

July 20, 2025

I was given a Purity Test during my first week at Student House, where I lived at MIT. Freshman score: 16%. Junior score: 34%.  2026: 38% (I was not being honest, either in 1972 or 2026)

This is the Purity Test I took, apparently popular at MIT. It’s hard to offer sample questions in a PG 17-rated column (and I may have failed) but here are some samples:

  • Gone through the motions of sexual intercourse while fully clothed?
  • Had an erection? (clitoral counts)
  • Had a date?
  • Kissed someone other than your mother?
  • Petted below the shoulders?
  • Had someone else’s hand under your skirt/down your pants?
  • Had two sexual encounters with two different people within a twelve-hour period?
  • Had an orgasm?
  • Masturbated?
  • Had sex with more than one person in the same night? (night is defined as 6pm-6am)
  • Had sex more than three times in the same night? (not necessarily with the same person)
  • Participated in a threesome? (all three parties must actually be participating; just watching doesn’t count)

Used a sexual aid or appliance?
Remember this is just a sample.
