Funny Introductions

January 18, 2026

It’s been a while since I’ve done a “joke format” item, but it is hard to resist Funny Names.

I was recently watching the HBO Max program Gilded Age. There is a ball, presented in the standard format of the time. As each group of guests arrives, the butler announces them: “Mr. and Mrs. Smith and their son John.” It’s been years since I heard one of these jokes. “Mr. and Mrs. Turner and their daughter Paige.” It has been a while since this humor template crossed my mind.

I’ve been trying to develop a new one, but finding a combination of a realistic last name to combine with a pun first name is difficult. Do you have one?

Well, you could riff on the old joke and go with "Mr. and Mrs. Hertz and their son, Dick."

Well, of course there are the many hilarious names in the credits of Car Talk: Picup Andropov and all the rest at https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/entertainthis/2014/11/03/car-talk-tom-magliozzi-credits/77368658/. For some reason, this doesn't list customer service representation Heywood G. Buzzoff. Other favorites: Justin Case, Anita Bath, Chris P. Bacon come to mind. But you really can't top the wine brand that actually flew off the shelves for a couple weeks in 2012 until the TTB finally realized why it was selling so well and rescinded its certificate of label approval: Stu Pedasso. Turns out the winery found a workaround, and the brand is now revived as non-alcoholic wine, over which the Feds have no jurisdiction.

[…] template is very close to the funny introductions, but I think there have been enough now to warrant a new humor template: Punny […]
