P.S. A Column On Things

By PAUL E. SCHINDLER JR. I am from Portland, Oregon, Beaumont ’66, Benson High ’70, MIT ’74. Some things are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know these things.

Anyone who has ever seen a Looney Tunes is required by law to watch this film in a theater. Coyote opens Aug. 28; buy your tickets now.

The live action/animated hybrid is laugh-out-loud funny from stem to stern—a distance which, at 101 minutes, only barely violated my rule that no movie needs to be more than 90 minutes long. We’re not talking polite giggles here; full-scale belly laughs.

Roger Rabbit’s in danger of having his crown knocked off.

A tip of the PSACOT hat to the four readers who will recognize the 1970 inside joke represented by the title.

Somehow, I failed to note the bicentennial of the best piece ever written about trade journalism: Mark Twain: How I Edited An Agricultural Paper (1870).

It is a roman à clef of Twain’s month at the helm of InformationWeek magazine in August 1985[1], when I wrote a third of the magazine myself. You could check that claim if there were an extant copy of InformationWeek from that month—or any other. The Twain essay is the opening shot of my 40,000 word Journalism Reader, which probably sets a WordPress record for length. Also available in ointment or suppository form, or as the Paul Schindler’s Journalism Reader PDF (140 pages long).
